Posting may be delayed for a bit

Due to Jazz Fest time and teaching and tasting and everything else that keeps me away from the computer, posting may be delayed for a bit as I am running from here to there from now until about mid May. I will have some good information to share very soon though so stay tuned!

French wines at Bacchanal with George 4-11-09

I finally made it back over to Bacchanal last Saturday for the afternoon tasting. We tasted five French wines with George Brown of Vino Wholesale which are listed below:

Domaine Fournier Sauvignon Blanc (2007)
With this first wine I needed no introduction; one whiff of my glass told me exactly what it contained and what to expect. The sharp, bright vegetal quality could belong to nothing but Sauvingon Blanc. A little aeration gave way to more fruit. It was clean with a bright citrus quality.

Domaine Pascal & Mireille Renaud Macon-Villages (2007)
I get excited everytime I see Macon on a wine label. I love the lighter style of white burgundy from that region. This one didn't disappoint; it was subtle and slightly creamy and barely acidic. Very pleasant on the palate.

Domaine Houchart Cotes de Provence Rosé (2008)
I am not a great lover of rosé. Whenever someone mentions it I think of the sweetish stuff I used to get as a teenager. In the last couple years I've had some dryer styles I really like and this is one of my new favorites. The delicately floral nose intrigued me and I was delighted to find it just as floral on my palate as well as subtly fruity. It was lightly acidic and lingered on the finish.

Domaine du Pesquier (2007)
Again, the nose was all the introduction needed here for this mostly grenache Cotes du Rhone blend. It was very light, fruit forward with a bit of green tobacco and some bitterness in back. (Grenache, Mouvdre, Syrah and Carignan.)

Ferraton Pere et Fils Samorëns (2006)
Mostly Syrah, it had a nice nose with a hint of spice. Medium dry with subtle fruit and some spice on the palate.

I highly recommend the rosé.
